Freddie Lee McKinzie
June 21, 1979 – April 4, 2025
Freddie Lee McKinzie, 46, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away on April 4, 2025, at Indiana University Health Hospital in Bloomington. Born on June 21, 1979, in Flint, Michigan, to Shirley A. McKinzie and the late Freddie Lee Jones Sr., Freddie brought light, laughter, and love to those around him from the very beginning.
Freddie is lovingly survived by his devoted mother, Shirley A. Jones; his cherished children, Freddie Lee McKinzie Jr. and Santana Lynn McKinzey; and his beloved sisters, Sharrissa E.L. McKinzie, Carol Jones-Jackson, Chandra Eddins, and Chequetta Evans. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews—including a special cousin and lifelong friend, Johnny “J.R.” Boggan. Freddie’s girlfriend, Terra Vincent, and her mother, Santana, also held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Freddie Lee Jones Sr.; his sister, Audrey Jones; and his grandparents, George McKinzie Sr. and Marie McKinzie, as well as Jeff Jones and Eliza Jones. Many other aunts, uncles, and cousins also welcomed him into eternity.
Freddie had a deep love for fishing and could often be found by the water, rod in hand, taking in the peace and quiet. He also had a passion for music and spent countless hours in his in-home studio, recording and creating songs that reflected his spirit and soul. A hardworking man, Freddie dedicated many years to the fast food industry, always bringing a smile to the faces of those he served.
He attended Flint Public High School and later relocated to Indiana, where he continued to build a life filled with love, creativity, and resilience.
From his mother, Shirley A. Jones:
“Freddie Lee McKinzie was born June 21, 1979, in Flint, Michigan—the day he stole my heart. He passed on April 4, 2025—the day my heart broke. Two of the most exciting times in his life were when he called to say he was expecting his children, Bubbie and Tana. Freddie, you will live on forever in my heart. Forever 46.”
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of IU Health Bloomington, Bedford Hospital in Indianapolis, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, SpringHill Suites in Bloomington, and Magnolia Cremations of Jeffersonville, Indiana, for their compassion and care during this difficult time. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten.
Freddie will be remembered for his warm heart, his creativity, and the joy he brought to everyone lucky enough to know him.
