Daniel H. Kubly

February, 20, 1942 - May, 15, 2022

Crestwood, Kentucky/Middleton, Wisconsin: Daniel H. "Hutch" Kubly was born in Madison in February of 1942. His parents were Duke and Sammy Kubly. He died May 15th, 2022 as a result of brain cancer.

He was raised in Nakoma and attended West High School. He graduated from Riverside Military Academy in Georgia in 1960. After college at UW-Madison, he entered the Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. After his honorable discharge from the Army he worked for H.C. Prange Co. in Appleton where he became a store Assistant Manager before returning to work with his father's business at Wolff Kubly and Hirsig.

In 1971 he was a primary finalist in the first Dane County Executive race but was defeated in the general election. The political campaign was an experience that he always cherished.

In 1977 Dan married Linda Feyerson at the Kubly family's summer cottage on Lake Mendota. Together Linda and Dan raised two great girls. Danica Carmichael (John) who is employed in the Thoroughbred industry in Kentucky and Cassie D'Orazio (Brian) who is employed as a School Psychologist in a suburb of Denver, Colorado. He is survived by Linda and his daughters and grandsons: Kaden Carmichael, and Easton and Brooks D'Orazio.

Dan has been described as a serial entrepreneur. He owned a laundry equipment leasing business for 20 years. He sold the business to a national company from the Boston area. He owned a ham store/deli in the Milwaukee area and expanded the operation to three stores before the business was sold to a national ham store chain from Cincinnati. Along with his partner, he created an online food E-commerce business that was also expanded and sold. After retiring from actively running his own businesses, he continued his career as a consultant and advisor to many local and regional start-ups and established companies.

After discharge from the Army, Dan enjoyed skydiving as well as water skiing. Later in life he raced a Corvette nationally, competing at most of the major race courses in the country. He was an avid reader with interest in biographies, American history and mystery novels. Dan enjoyed "old time" radio programs and big band Jazz music. Dan was active in local softball and baseball as an umpire. He umpired for many years into his mid 70s. In his younger years he was a member of Maple Bluff, The Madison Club, and Downtown Rotary. He was very proud of his volunteer service with The United Way and The Big Brothers of Dane County, where he served as president for two years. Dan was active with NFIB (National Federation of Independent Business). He served the organization for many years up to the time of his death.

Dan and Linda shared a love for all animals, especially their dogs. They had at least one or two dogs (and sometimes cats) their entire life together.

Dan was predeceased by an older sister, Trudi Hoard (Donald, deceased) and is survived by her son, James Daniel Hoard (Jodie) of Rockton, Illinois. His cousin, Beth Kubly of Madison further survives him. Services will be private at a later time.
