Dr. Margaret "Peggy" Elizabeth Owens Preble,75, of La Grange, Kentucky, passed away on November 11, 2024, following a tragic accident during her afternoon walk. Known affectionately as "Peggy" by her family, she was a woman of boundless creativity, compassion, and generosity. To the broader world, she was Margaret—a name she carried with elegance in both her personal and professional life. Born on October 20, 1949, Margaret grew up in a home filled with warmth and encouragement. She graduated from Briarcliff High School and pursued her passion for art at the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Her early career as a graphic artist at Columbia Records (1971–1974) showcased her remarkable talent, as she contributed to iconic music albums that brought joy to countless fans. In 1978, Margaret embraced a new path, earning her Doctorate in Chiropractic from Logan University. For 45 years, she dedicated herself to healing and uplifting others through chiropractic care, eventually retiring in 2023.
Her commitment to her patients reflected her lifelong desire to make a positive difference in the lives of those around her. Margaret’s creativity extended well beyond her career. An accomplished calligrapher, she shared her artistry through heartfelt letters and cards, becoming a cherished pen pal to young readers who treasured her wisdom and kindness. She was an avid reader, gardener, and tandem cyclist, often enjoying scenic rides with her husband, Larry. Her garden was not only a source of beauty but also a space where she nurtured connections and community. Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Dr. Laurence "Larry" D. Preble; her son, Richard W. Preble; her sister, Katherine “Kathy” Owens Slade; and her brother, William “Reed” Owens. She was preceded in death by her parents, William B. and Adelaide Owens. Margaret’s life was a testament to her kind, generous spirit and her unwavering creativity.
Her warmth touched everyone she met, and her memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on December 1, at Sawyer-Hayes Community Center at 2:00PM through 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to The Parklands of Floyd’s Fork, one of her favorite places to ride tandem, or Yew Dell Botanical Gardens, reflecting her love of natural beauty.

Larry, I’m so sorry for your loss! Linda heard about this awful tragedy from her daughter, Brianne, and of course, told me. We couldn’t believe it. I still can’t.
I know it’s been a million years since the 3 of you were here in Atlantic Beach. . . . time flies by so fast! I just wanted to let you know that we’re thinking of you, Ricky and Peggy. You’re in my prayers and you’re always in our hearts. We’re here if there’s anything we can do.
Love,
Ellen (cousin)
