George "Duke" Richard Capes, 79, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024. 

George "Duke" was born in Capron, Illinois, to Rueben and Grace "Williams" Capes. He grew up in Byron, Illinois and graduated from Byron High School. He was an iron worker and worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron, owned GJ & Sons Construction, and was a man of all trades.

He was loved and known by many as Uncle, Grandpa, and Papaw Duke. He loved to sing like Johnny Cash when he played the guitar. His favorite things were fishing, camping, and his family. 

George "Duke" is survived by his two daughters, Brenda "Capes" Camm Money and Pamela Sue "Capes" Sanders; step-children, Kim and Joel; grandchildren, Chad (Diana) Jones, Cara (Josh) Lowery, Lauren (Darrin Griffin) Camm, Kaylee and Owen Vice, and Emma and Era Easterling; great-grandchildren, Liam and Hadley Crombie, Harper Jones, Luke and Cameron "Cam" Lowery, Annabelle, Rowan and Elijah "Eli" Griffin; sister, Pat Way; sister-in-law Sherry Capes; Mimi's family; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his son, Rich; wife, Patricia Capes "Mimi"; his parents, six sisters, and a brother. 

Cremation has been chosen and Magnolia Cremations of Jeffersonville, Indiana has been entrusted with the arrangements.
