John Pelsor

12/13/1952 - 11/15/2024

John Andrew Pelsor was born on December 13, 1952, to Russell and Maxine (Willy) Pelsor, in Madison Indiana. He died November 15, 2024, in Madison, IN at his home. Interestingly, he lived (and died) on the same family farm where he had grown up—on the same family land that has been in the Pelsor family for over 125 years.

John married Sharon Shinkle on September 28, 1973. They were blessed with 3 children. He worked for the State of Indiana for over 40 years, the majority of that time as a corrections officer. He also served in the Army National Guard for 21 years. He was part of the Governor’s Twenty, a group of the top 20 National Guard shooters in the state. He participated (and loved) competing in rifle marksmanship matches at various bases. He retired as a staff sergeant in 1995.

He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Sharon, as well as his three children, Heather Hearne, Derrick (Sara) Pelsor, and Shea (Ricky) Spindler, six grandchildren (Camryn, Quenton, Jaxon, Leighton, Leyla, and Everly), a brother, Robert (Judy) Pelsor,  a sister, Kathleen (Chris) Andres, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joseph Pelsor.

He attended Madison Assembly of God Church where he proudly served on the security team, with Royal Rangers, and as an usher. His celebration of life will be held at Madison Assembly of God on what would have been his 72nd birthday, December 13, 2024, at 6:30pm.

In the end, we all become stories. John Pelsor’s story is worth telling. It’s an uncommon story these days, because it’s one of quiet fortitude, stick-to-it-tiveness, and honor. John wasn’t flashy, he didn’t wow you with his way with words, his fancy toys, or his manner of dress. He was a simple farm kid, and he didn’t need to be noticed. He showed up, and how often even his simple presence was a balm to angry wounds. He did the right thing simply because it was the right thing. His faith impacted the way he chose to live his life. He endured, where others would have given up. And he will be missed dearly.
