Laurence (Larry) W. Mitchell of Louisville, KY, passed away unexpectedly on January 24, 2024, at the age of 75.

Larry was born July 31st , 1948, in Auburn, NY and adopted by Evelyn C. (Baetzold) and Frank S. Mitchell of Fredonia, NY. He was a graduate with the class of 1966 from Fredonia High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The University of Palm Beach in 1970, which was later put to good use within the family business, Mitchell Foods. Larry was also a veteran of The United States Navy and Naval Reserves, serving from 1970- 1985.

In his later years, Larry worked in the transportation industry. He drove tractor trailers cross country and city buses, retiring from Votran in Daytona Beach, FL. He loved music, including Johnny Cash, The Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, and all the country classics as well as playing the organ from an early age. He was an avid watcher of Western movies and shows, especially anything that starred John Wayne. Larry enjoyed traveling within the US with his wife and sightseeing anywhere that involved being in the outdoors including the occasional camping trip and snowmobile excursions. He also enjoyed spending his free time out on the water boating, getting some wind therapy on his motorcycle and enjoying his love for planes by taking in the occasional air show.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Shawna (Jerry) Atwell; grandson, Triston Libby; granddaughters, Jessica (Mathew) Karon and Jene’ (Joe Pantore) Atwell; and three great- grandchildren, Copelynn, Emilio and Liam.

Larry is preceded in death by his loving wife of 32 years, Marcia Mitchell; two sons, Robert (Bobby) and Jamison (Jamie) Trippy and both of his parents, Evelyn & Frank.

The family will be holding a local Celebration of Life 1-3pm on Saturday, March 2nd at Metro United Way, 334 E Broadway, Louisville, KY.

A graveside memorial service, burial and Celebration of Life is being planned for early Summer at Pioneer Cemetery in Forestville, NY.

Cremation was chosen and Magnolia Cremations of Jeffersonville, IN, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
