Michael Alan McElfresh

July 14, 1982 - February 24, 2024

Michael Alan McElfresh (Mac), 41, of Cannelton, IN, passed away tragically in a car accident on February 24, 2024.

Michael was born in Jasper, IN to Tim and Lana (May) McElfresh.

In his tradition of living life fast, he snagged the love of his life, Miranda, when they were just kids.  They married in 2002 and then had two children: Jalie and Jordan.

Michael was such a force in the lives of all that knew him.  The sentiments that have been shared since his passing just confirm that he was a man of integrity and always there for anyone that needed a hand.  He was a millwright and mason that worked hard and was proud of it.  Everyone can attest to the fact that he played just as hard!  He was the life of the party and always made everyone laugh. Both his work ethic and sense of humor are alive and well in his son and daughter.

Michael loved all things outdoors and thought every experience was better surrounded by family and friends.  If he walked into a room and didn’t know you, you would soon get an introduction and by the time he left, he was already someone you’d never forget.  He made personal connections with people that no amount of time passing could break.  He was a fierce protector of his circle of people and often anyone else that he felt was being disrespected for that matter!  He lived large and unapologetically, so his absence will be felt deeply.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Tim McElfresh (Mac).  He is survived by his wife, Miranda McElfresh, and his children, Jordan and Jalie McElfresh, his mom, Lana May, and his sisters, Jennifer Oakley (Justin) and Melissa McTier (Markis). He also left behind his in-laws: Lisa Thomas, David Byerly, Dawn Mullins, Stacy Dicus, Kendra Shelton, and Brooke Shelton.

He made an impact on a huge crew of nieces and nephews: Trenton, Brayden, Landon, Taelynn, Emerson, Ayla, Megan, Stewie, Amiya, Bentley, Genevieve, Jedson, and Finley.

The world will never be the same for countless other family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for March 30th at the Derby Community Center.  Michael’s cousin, James Hickerson, will officiate the ceremony.

My favorite memory of Michael was when my mother and I came to visit Michael and Tim and the family and watched a round of the playoffs that year. Michael made his aunt Florence laugh as hard as I’ve ever heard her. She told me that was the most fun she ever had watching football. Michael was one of a kind.

Aunt Marilyn

Michael was shy around me when he was little. As he got older and I seen him at his big sisters wedding . From that day forward Michael visited me and my children often who love Michael so much..
They don’t know to many of my family members.
Michael made it a point to be in our lives. We loved to deep sea fish when he came down with his beautiful little family.
He left burn out rings in the road where i live when he left the last time to remember him by.
Michael was young at heart and reminded me so much of my Dad , his Grampa Mac .
I just feel like I lost my Dad all over again.
Michael took a big piece of my heart February 24th.
Never ever forgotten 💔
Love your favorite Aunt
