Steven Franken

11/06/1956-12/20/2024

Steven Franken, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on December 20, 2024 at his home of 30 years in Pewee Valley, KY.  He was born November 6, 1956 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Donald and Leola Franken. Those who were fortunate enough to know Steve well were treated to his bright smile, big hugs, constant text messages, invitations to crazy adventures, elaborate stories (factual and fabricated), and infuriating tendency to wander. He was a man of many skills, loved to learn and could teach himself to do just about anything - he was a talented golfer, artist, dancer, carpenter, cook, gardener, and he had the tremendous ability to befriend ANYONE he met. He loved the Yankees, The Beatles, camping, The Andy Griffith Show, The Masters, a fire in the fireplace, a bargain or a “free” sample and a large gas station cappuccino.

His biggest love was his family. Steve never missed a chance to tell his children how proud he was of them and how much he loved them, he is already deeply missed by his children, Danielle (Billy) D’Onofrio, Jessica Franken (Scott and daughters Brielle and Alaycia) and Sam (Kadi) Franken. He could not have been more excited to add grandchildren to his family and welcomed the opportunity to embrace this role with lots of treats and few rules. “Pap” was able to create a truly unique lifelong bond with his grandkids. He created treacherous adventures to hunt bears, fished for the biggest fish, told the spookiest stories, rode automated wheelchairs through the grocery, went on the biggest rides, climbed trees, played anything they wanted and made each of them feel like the center of his world. His memory will stay alive and young in his six grandchildren, Hayden, Kaelyn, Luke, Noah, Maddox and Wyatt. Steve is also survived by his five siblings, who he enjoyed reminding he was Mom’s favorite, Leslie Franken, Dale (Kim) Franken, Lynn (Danny) Brush, David (Pattie) Franken, and Jennifer (Kelly) Bednar, as well as a whole lot of nieces and nephews whom I am sure he never counted. One of his best traits was the way he could make a special bond with his family no matter where they lived or how often he saw them. The hole he has left will be felt in many hearts. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his buddy and the best dog, Duke.

In honor of our father’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date as we determine the best way to honor our dad. We encourage you to honor Steve in your own way.

Cremation was chosen and Magnolia Cremations of Jeffersonville, Indiana has been entrusted with the arrangements.
