Theresa A. Merritt

 Theresa Ann Monty-Merritt (59) passed away peacefully on March 1st, 2024, with her family lovingly by her side after a long battle with cancer. Theresa was born in Chicago Heights, IL. to Josephine and Armando Monty on October 30, 1964. 

Theresa was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate from birth earning her the nickname “Tyke” for her pint-sized fierceness and deep-love of family which continued throughout her life. She earned her administration degree in Chicago and proceeded to work at the Chicago Board of Options Exchange and Holland where she met her forever beloved husband, Kenneth Merritt. The two of them lived in Georgia and later settled in Louisville, Kentucky where they built a beautiful life and home together. In Louisville, Theresa loyally worked at Park Duvalle for many years.

She enjoyed traveling, laughing and making others giggle, sharing meals with loved ones, music and dancing (she learned every lyric to her favorite songs), attending Nascar races, caring for papa’s honeybees, walks with Sammy, playing cards and Jenga. She adored sitting at the lake with "The Girls " and watching The Big Bang Theory. Most importantly, she cherished her time with her family. Her infectious energy emanated light and humor into everyone around her whether she was bursting through the door yelling “smooches” or shining her beautiful smile while embracing you with a tight hug. She made everyone feel included and knew just what to say during hard times. Her impact is wide-reaching and forever lasting.

She is survived by her beloved husband and rock, Kenneth Merritt and dog son, Sammy “wiggle butt”, who stood by her side every step of her life and battle. She will forever be remembered by her “Babbo”, Armando Monty; Mama and Papa Merritt, Nobel Sr. and Shelby; Siblings Jo Maria Wolter, Marisa, Raymond, and Richard Monty and Nobel Jr. Merritt; stepsons Zachary and Josh Merritt and wife Tavishia; grandbabies Braiden and Blaine Merritt; goddaughter and niece Taleia “Tal” and husband Nick “Nicky”, and nieces Rachel, Holly, Sarah and Leah. And countless friends and family. She is preceded in death by “Mama” Josephine Monty.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held March 15, 2024 from 12-4 at The Carriage House located at 1101 E. Market Street, Jeffersonville, IN 47130. Burial will follow at a later date at the Merritt Family Cemetery, West Virginia.
