How much does cremation cost in Indiana?
Direct cremation in Indiana costs an average of $2,200 or more, according to national pricing data. At Magnolia Cremations, direct cremation starts at $995, which includes transportation within 50 miles of our Jeffersonville crematory, a private cremation at our family-owned facility, all required permits and paperwork, and the return of your loved one's ashes.
Our pricing is lower because we own and operate our own crematory. There's no third-party outsourcing, no chapel fees, and no pressure to buy extras. Additional mileage beyond 50 miles is available at a flat per-mile rate, clearly shown before you commit.

What if we don't live near your crematory?
Distance doesn't change the quality of care. We serve families across all of Indiana from our crematory in Jeffersonville, and we handle all transportation logistics for your loved one.
Many local funeral homes don't actually perform cremations on-site. They outsource to third-party facilities, sometimes counties away, without disclosing it. With Magnolia, your loved one stays in our care at our own facility from start to finish.
Transportation within 50 miles is included. Beyond that, additional mileage is available at a clearly listed flat rate. Ashes can be picked up at our Jeffersonville or Louisville office, or shipped overnight to your home for $125.
What's included in Magnolia's Indiana cremation package?
Our $995 direct cremation package includes everything a family needs: professional transportation of your loved one into our care within 50 miles (additional mileage fees apply over 50 miles), a private cremation performed at our licensed Jeffersonville facility, filing of all death certificates and permits, a basic cremation container, and the return of ashes in a temporary urn.
Optional add-ons are available only if you choose them, including shipping of ashes ($125), and memorial merchandise, such as urns or jewelry. Nothing is bundled or required beyond the base package.
How does the cremation process work with Magnolia?
Once you contact us by phone or begin planning online, here's what happens:
- Arrangement: You'll provide the required information. This can be completed online in under 20 minutes or over the phone with a Family Care Advisor.
- Transportation: Our team brings your loved one into our care. We handle all logistics.
- Documentation: We file the death certificate and secure the cremation permit through the State of Indiana.
- Cremation: Your loved one is cremated at our private, family-owned facility in Jeffersonville. We use a dual-ID and barcode tracking system throughout.
- Return of ashes: You can pick up ashes at our Jeffersonville or Louisville office, or have them shipped to you for $125.
Our Family Care Advisors are available 24/7 for urgent situations and Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm for general planning.
How long does cremation take in Indiana?
The cremation process itself typically takes 2 to 4 hours. From the time your loved one enters our care, most families receive ashes within 7 to 10 business days. That timeline accounts for required documentation, including the filing and approval of the death certificate and cremation permit through the State of Indiana.
Does Indiana Medicaid cover cremation costs?
Yes. Indiana Medicaid provides funeral assistance of up to $1,200, which can often fully cover Magnolia's direct cremation package with no upfront payment required from the family.
Your loved one may qualify if they were enrolled in Indiana Medicaid (MAA, MAB, MASI, or MAD classifications), receiving SSI or SSDI, or living below the federal poverty level. To confirm eligibility, we'll need their full legal name, date of birth, and Social Security number.
Our team handles the entire Medicaid claims process at no cost to you. Medicaid pays Magnolia directly, and while reimbursement typically takes 60 to 120 days, we wait on payment so your family doesn't have to.
How do I pre-plan cremation in Indiana?
Pre-planning lets you lock in today's cremation pricing, starting at $995, so your family isn't burdened with decisions or unexpected costs later. You can complete a pre-plan online, by phone, or with a licensed Family Care Advisor.
When you prepay, your rate is guaranteed for life, even if prices increase. Indiana law requires prepaid cremation funds to be held in a state-regulated trust or insurance policy, so the money is protected and available when it's needed.
Your plan is stored securely, and when the time comes, your family will know exactly what you wanted, with no guesswork and no financial pressure.
How does cremation compare to burial costs in Indiana?
Cremation is significantly more affordable. A traditional funeral with burial in Indiana typically costs $7,000 to $10,000 or more when you factor in embalming, a casket, cemetery plot, headstone, and service fees. Direct cremation with Magnolia starts at $995, with all essentials included.
Beyond cost, cremation gives families more flexibility. There's no rush to plan a service, no cemetery requirements, and more options for memorialization on your own timeline, whether that's scattering ashes, keeping them at home, or holding a celebration of life when you're ready.
