Dennis Victor Gogel

September, 02, 1954 - November, 21, 2021

Dennis V. Gogel, 67, of New Albany, passed away on Sunday, November 21st. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Rita(Ernst) Gogel. He is survived by two sisters, Virginia(Dave) Hyde of Floyds Knobs, and Michelle Gogel of Clarksville; and two nephews, Sean(Candace) Hyde and Josh(Sarah) Hyde. 

He retired from Central&Southern Motor carriers. 

In the 70's and 80's, Denis was heavily involved in the chess world. He traveled the country playing the game he loved. He was a six time Indiana state champion. He was inducted into the Kentucky Chess Hall of Fame in 2018. Later in life, when he was done traveling, he used his talent to teach the game. One of his students, Andy Porter, won a state championship as well. 

at his request, Dennis has chosen cremation and no service will be held.
