Albert Hugh Gillaspie

May 28, 1947 – May 11, 2025

Albert Hugh Gillaspie, 77, of Louisville, KY, lost his hard fought battle with cancer. Hugh lived a full life powered by faith, family, friends, and a wicked sense of humor. He spent his career as a Nationwide Insurance agent, helping folks protect what mattered most—though he’d argue nothing was more important than time spent with family and friends, especially on the softball field with his two sons, Jeff and Jason.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Gillaspie, who kept him grounded (and occasionally in line) for many wonderful years. Hugh was the proud father of Jason (Alicia) Gillaspie and the late Jeff Gillaspie, who no doubt greeted him at Heaven’s gates, gloves in hand. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Drex, Luke, Whitney, and Max—each one inheriting a bit of his charm, wit, and competitive spirit. He also leaves behind his stepchildren Jaime Jackson and Kara (Gary) Barnes, and step-grandchildren Ella, Ava, Jake, Sloane, and Beckett, all of whom he cheered on from the sidelines.

Hugh was a long-time member of Southeast Christian Church, and a die-hard UofL fan. If he wasn’t on the golf course or softball field, you’d find him in the stands at his grandkids’ games.

Known to many as the “Best 3rd Baseman in all of Westport Road Baptist Church history,” Hugh’s glove was golden and his jokes were even better. Heaven may never be the same now that two Westport Road Baptist Church softball legends are reunited.

He will be missed dearly, remembered fondly, and quoted often.
