Alfa J. Cardwell, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. He was born and raised on a farm in Butler County, Kentucky.

Al was a proud U.S. Army veteran and retired from TARC. A resident of the Portland neighborhood for more than 66 years, he was well known for his love of gardening and his unmatched skill as a backyard mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon; his son, Robert; his parents, Everett and Charlene Cardwell; and four brothers—Otis, Jay, Clarence, and Ricky.

Al is survived by his daughter, Angel Mery, and his son, Thomas Cardwell (Charmaine). He was affectionately known as “Pop” to his grandchildren—Brandon, A.J., Joshua, April, Brandy, and Robert—and leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren who adored him.

He is also survived by his siblings: Everett, Glendon, Eulon, Mary Lou, Kenny, Roger, and Betty Sue, along with many nieces and nephews.

Cremation was chosen and entrusted to Magnolia Cremations.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Hosparus of Southern Indiana for their compassionate care.
