10/08/1937 - 07/17/2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony "Tony" Higdon on July 17, 2025, at the age of 87.
Tony was born on October 8, 1937, in Owensboro, Kentucky, and spent most of his adult life in Louisville. He was married to Janice Marie Kamuf, his beloved wife of 66 years, who preceded him in death. Together, they raised three daughters: Mischelle Spalding (Kevin), Christine Burnett (Roger), and Jackie Weber (Scott). He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren.
He is also preceded in death by his cherished brother, Frankie; his devoted grandmother, “Grandma Higdon”; and his father, Xavier Higdon. Tony deeply loved his family, and he was deeply loved in return.
At the age of 17, Tony enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Thule Air Base in Greenland. Following his service, he attended Brescia College on the GI Bill, where he majored in History and minored in English. A lifelong learner and avid reader, Tony cultivated a rich personal and professional life.
He enjoyed a distinguished 40-year career with the U.S. Federal Government, retiring in 1997 as Regional Commissioner of the Social Security Administration’s Atlanta region.
Tony led a full and vibrant life, known for his quick wit, generous spirit, sharp intellect, and wonderful sense of humor. He took great pride in his many accomplishments, both professional and personal. In his leisure time, he loved fishing, playing the guitar while singing, reading, and spending time with his family.
His daughters extend their heartfelt gratitude to Rowena and Aida Napilot for their exceptional care and compassion in Tony’s final years. He adored them, and their devotion brought great comfort, dignity, and joy to his later life.
Tony will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony.
