Bruce Thomas Hughes, 68, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
Bruce was born in Louisville, KY, on December 5, 1955, to the late James and Joan "Fishback" Hughes. HE is also preceded in death by his son, Travis Hughes.
Bruce worked at Central State Hospital for 10 years. He later went on to complete HVAC and Plumbing Trade School that kickstarted his lifelong career. Bruce was a skilled craftsman and enjoyed woodworking and building model airplanes, boats, and birdhouses. He shared a special passion for playing guitar and spending time on the water boating and fishing. He would often take his children and grandchildren alongside him.
Bruce was a loving father and grandfather. He loved his family and was always proud of his children.
Bruce is survived by his stepfather, Steve Powers; sister, Renee "Hughes" Kimbro; son, Mitchell Hughes; daughter, Leslie "Hughes" (Todd) Swanson; grandchildren, Claire Summitt, Amelia Swanson, August Swanson; and nieces, Heather Summers, Cassandra Kimbro, and Terri Kimbro.
There will be a private family celebration of life service.

Bruce was a huge part of both Britain and Casey’s childhood. “The shed” was infamous. Bruce will carry wonderful and funny memories forever. Ashbrooke wouldn’t have been the same without him. I know Leslie and Mitchell will miss their Dad dearly. I hope my children will love and care for me as much as they did for their Dad.
Bruce, guarantee the first thing you did was find Travis and give him a big ol hug! RIP sweetheart.
