Carolyn Abell

Carolyn Abell, 96, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, with one of her daughters by her side. Born on February 22, 1928, Carolyn lived a life filled with love, service, and devotion to her family and community.

She is survived by her loving children: Nancy Jean Abell, Larry Stoner Abell, and Janet Carolyn Abell. She also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who cherished her presence. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, David Stoner Abell; her parents, Jacob and Ina Rose Sipes; her brother, William L. Sipes; her sister, Sylvia Sipes Cook; and her daughter-in-law, Ann Abell.

Carolyn was deeply involved in her faith community, serving as an ordained Deacon, XYZ Coordinator, and church moderator at Deer Park Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. Her love for creativity shone through her passion for sewing, including designing, making, and selling intricate Barbie doll clothes. Carolyn also enjoyed DIY home projects and was an avid fan of college basketball, especially cheering on UofL and UK.

A dedicated educator, Carolyn graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown College, KY, and went on to work for over 35 years as an elementary school teacher for Jefferson County Public Schools, KY. Her impact on the lives of countless students remains part of her lasting legacy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, at 11 a.m. at Deer Park Baptist Church, followed by a lunch reception. Donations in Carolyn's memory may be made to Deer Park Baptist Church, 1733 Bardstown Rd., Louisville, KY 40205.

Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.

Cremation was chosen and Magnolia Cremations of Jeffersonville, Indiana has been entrusted with the arrangements.
