Charles Gene White, 92, of New Albany, IN passed away January 31, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Louisville, KY on December 26, 1933.
Charley, as he was known by all of his family and friends, was a 1951 graduate of New Albany High School. He participated in basketball and was on the track team as a pole vaulter. He held the school record in pole vaulting for several years. After high school he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Louise White and joined the US Marine Corp. He served active duty from 1952-1954 and was a Veteran of the Korean War. After returning from Korea he went to school and became a certified pilot with the US Dept. of Commerce and enjoyed flying his small Cessna Plane.
Charley was an employee of BF Goodrich in Louisville, KY as a Lab Tech for over 30 years. Upon his retirement in 1989 he and his wife moved to Florida where they resided until moving back to New Albany in 2023.
Charley had a very quiet, gentle and kind inner strength and was extremely disciplined in every aspect of life. He was an avid fisherman and spent countless hours enjoying the peace and quiet on lakes, rivers and streams. His love of nature fueled his enjoyment for hiking and camping. He loved sports and staying active so snow skiing became an enjoyable pass time. His love for adventure and travel led he and his wife, Margaret, to spend their retirement traveling throughout the country and cruising all over the world.
Charley is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Margaret Louise White; 4 daughters, Gina (Jon) Roberts, Lara (Darell) Crabtree, Jamie (Bob) Woodford, and Karie (Bill) Corrao; 12 grandchildren, Ryan (Nadine) Roberts, Tiffany (Matt) Wolfskill, Aaron (Ashley) Grace, Joshua Grace, Cory (Shauna) Grace, Christopher (Melinda) Grace, Rachel (Scott) Howie, Sarah (Jason) Jamison, Salena (Travis) Barrickman, Justin (Lindsy) Corrao, Ashley (Chris) Hendrick, and Drew Corrao; 35 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
