Chiquita Darlene Hays, 68, of Horse Cave, Kentucky, passed away on January 6, 2026 at her home. There will be a celebration of life at Campground Cemetery in Cave City, Kentucky on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.
Chiquita was born in Fort Riley, Kansas, to John and Anne Garland on January 7, 1957. She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Johnna Cowan, one son, Richard A. Turner, and her husband, Vernon Hays. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Bunch (Robert), grandson Forrest Bunch (Shauna), two great grandchildren Kylie and Ross Bunch, four brothers, Greg Garland (Kara), Duane Garland (BJ), Kevin Garland (Maleta), and Scotty Garland, and two sisters, Kira Gilberg and Dana Paes, a host of nieces and nephews, and special friends Linda Pippin, Krystal Decker and Tiny.

I have many childhood memories of when I would go stay with Chiquita during the summer. Oh, the fun we would have running around the streets and play with what I thought of as (city kids). Being from the farm, city kids were different, and she is the one I experienced a lot of new things with. We have not been in touch one another in our adult years, but I still remember when…….. I will cherish all the memories we made and the trouble we stayed in.
