David Dunn
11/12/1943-02/26/2026
David Dunn, 82, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026. A devoted father, public servant, and proud American, David lived a life defined by service, dedication, and quiet strength.
David was born on November 12, 1943, in Patterson, New Jersey, to Nora Estella Channing and David Dunn. He was raised alongside his siblings, Margaret Mary and Richard Dunn, both of whom preceded him in death.
David graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he began building the foundation for a life devoted to protecting others and serving his country. While working briefly for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he met Betty Sue Griffith. Together they built a life and raised three sons: David Russell, John Joseph, and Christopher Mark, who were the pride and joy of his life.
David went on to serve as a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service, where he worked under Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Jimmy Carter. During his distinguished career, he traveled internationally and was entrusted with protecting key figures in American history. In 1973, while serving with the Secret Service, he traveled to the Paris Peace Accords, where he provided protection for Secretary of State Henry Kissinger during the historic negotiations.
Even after his government service, David continued contributing his expertise in security and public safety. In 1992, he served as the Director of Security for the Republican National Convention in Houston, Texas. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, David once again answered the call to serve his country, coming out of retirement to work with the Department of Homeland Security for two years to help protect the United States during a critical time.
Beyond his impressive career, David will be remembered as a man of integrity, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to both his family and his country. His quiet courage and sense of duty left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He leaves behind his three sons, David Russell Dunn, John Joseph Dunn, and Christopher Mark Dunn, along with extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
David’s life was one of honor and service, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the country he helped protect.
Honoring his wishes, the family will observe private arrangements.
