Edwina Thomas Hurley
10/30/1944 - 8/19/2025
Mrs. Edwina Thomas Hurley, age 80, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky.
Born on October 30, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, Edwina’s life was marked by resilience, compassion, and a deep devotion to her family and community. She pursued her education at the New Mexico School for the Deaf and later attended E.H. Gentry in Talladega, Alabama, where she learned the trade of seamstress—a skill that would serve her well throughout her life.
Edwina dedicated many years of service to the Alabama Industries for the Blind before retiring. Her work reflected not only her craftsmanship but also her commitment to contributing meaningfully to others' lives.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Tim Hurley; her daughter, Dollie (Robert) McLendon; and her grandchildren, Mya (Alec) Thomas and Antonio West. She also held a special place in her heart for her bonus grandchildren, Hannah McLendon and Rebecca McLendon. Edwina is survived by her sisters, Georgia Wofford and Nova Denise, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish her memory.
Edwina was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Dewey Thomas; her mother, Geraldine Miller; and her father, Edward Smoot.
Those who knew Edwina will remember her sweet spirit and kind soul. She found joy in simple pleasures—shopping trips, dining out with loved ones, caring for animals, and relaxing on her porch. Her immense love for both family and animals was evident in every aspect of her life. A devoted mother and grandmother, she brought warmth and light into the lives of those around her.
In honor of Edwina’s lifelong affection for animals, the family kindly requests that donations be made to your local animal shelter in lieu of flowers.
Edwina Thomas Hurley will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to those she leaves behind.
