Henrietta Leonard

12/13/1949 - 05/14/2026

Henrietta Leonard, 76, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends. Born in Blue Diamond, Kentucky, to Paul and Geraldine Napier, Henrietta carried her Appalachian roots proudly throughout her life, always referring to Blue Diamond as “home.”

Henrietta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dennis “Skip” Leonard; her parents; her sister, Jackie Oliver; her brothers, Jerry and Charles Napier; her sisters-in-law, Brenda Napier, Nella Hosea, and Donna Leonard; and her brothers-in-law, Donnie Oliver and Shelby Glasscock.

She leaves behind a family who meant everything to her, including her sister and best friend, Billie Tincher (Wally); her son, Dustin Leonard; her daughter, Lyndi Byrnes (Brandon); and her cherished grandchildren, Nash, Sawyer, and Sophie Byrnes, and Ian Leonard. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Danny Leonard (Rhonda) and George Leonard (Kristy); her sisters-in-law, Debi Glasscock (Dale), Mary Hypes (Rusty), and Marchell Stemler (Richard); along with many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. Henrietta also leaves behind her dear friend, Ceal Steele, and a circle of friends who brought her great joy throughout her life.

Henrietta had a vibrant personality and a love for life that could light up any room. She lived her life grounded in a deep and devout Christian faith, finding strength and comfort in the Lord. She never passed up a good party—especially if there was a dance floor where she and Skip could dance the night away. She found happiness in the simple pleasures: sitting with loved ones, sharing stories, and filling the room with laughter.

She was a proud and loyal fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. She also held a lifelong admiration for Elvis Presley, enjoying his music and charisma.

Henrietta took great pride in her appearance and was known for always being “dolled up.” Whether running errands or attending an event, she never left the house without her signature touch—perfectly applied lipstick and a radiant tan, reflecting the confidence and joy she carried within.

Above all, Henrietta was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother. Her greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely and the memories she created with those who knew her best.

A celebration of Henrietta’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to Down Syndrome of Louisville at: https://downsyndromeoflouisville.networkforgood.com/

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Every memory in the short amount of time I knew Henrietta was of her and Bill. Those two ladies were so joyful with big personalities. I loved their spunk, like Thelma and Louise. I hope when I reach my time, I am as remembered as she will be. Loved her! Praying for Lyndi and Dustin and all of her loved ones. Heaven is a much brighter and beautiful place with her there. Much love.

Ohhhhh the memories. Henrietta always made me feel so special and important. She would always greet me with such a loving smile and hug. She was such a wonderful giver of gifts, she made certain as a teenager when trends mattered most that we were gifted the trending item. For me that item was a navy blue sweater with red monogrammed letters from Bacons and guess what, I still have it! . She taught me the 3 step program of Mary Kay skin care and how to apply plumb color eye liner. When it came time for Prom and Senior Dinner Dance, Henrietta loaned me both dresses from her closet. Moving into adulthood, she was right there for every milestone. I loved the way she loved on me and I loved watching her dote on my kids the same way she did to me as a little girl when a girl needed encouragement the most! Henrietta you are already missed here on earth! Thank you for leaving a lasting impression on me and my children. I hope I can be as kind caring and loving to my friends and family as you were to me. Hug the whole family in heaven from all of us!! 🫂🫂
