Jacqueline Lee McGannon

Jacqueline Lee McGannon of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 25, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Daisy Cox, and her brother, Walter Cox. She is survived by her husband, Hugh Vincent McGannon; her brothers, John and Larry Cox, and their families; and by her three sons, James (Kelly) McGannon, Robert (April) McGannon, and William (Charity) McGannon. Jackie also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who were a constant source of joy in her life.
A lifelong member of Alpha Baptist Church, Jackie spent most of her life in and around Scott County. After graduating from Scottsburg High School, she joined the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), where she proudly served in several roles near Washington, D.C. Upon returning home, she worked at the Scott County Journal before marrying Vince on April 15, 1966. Jackie went on to earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University and devoted more than 25 years to teaching at Deputy Elementary School, where she inspired countless students through her dedication, humor, and warmth.
Known for her sharp wit, honesty, and caring nature, Jackie touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for the lasting impact she made on her family, friends, and community.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Alpha Baptist Church, 8089 Whitsitt Road, Deputy, Indiana 47230. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alpha Baptist Youth Fund.
