James Briel
01/29/1980 – 02/26/2025
James Briel, 45, passed away at home on 02/26/2025, surrounded by his loving wife; mother; and sister. He was born on 01/29/1980 and was a devoted husband; father; son; brother; uncle; and friend.
James is survived by his wife, Kendra (Bathurst) Briel; daughter, Sabrina Schmidt; mother, Gail Abercrombie; stepfather, James Abercrombie; sister, Leslie (Briel) Dellaquila, wife of the late Stephen Dellaquila; nieces, Taylor (Dellaquila) Orme (Dennis Jr.); Maddie Mattis; and Zoie Fryer; great-niece, Aria May Orme; and nephews, Chace Dellaquila (engaged to Destiny Wright); William Soos; and Devon Soos.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Briel Sr.; son, James Briel Jr.; brothers, Jeffery Briel; and Lester Briel Jr.; in-laws, Anita Pumphrey; and Bill Pumphrey; brother-in-law, Stephen Dellaquila; and niece, Dallas Briel.
James was a die-hard wrestling fan and a passionate supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles. He was always working or outside tending to yard work—he loved to stay busy. His four beloved cats, Willow; Blaze; Ravyn; and Rebel, held a special place in his heart, a love he shared with his mother.
Originally from Royersford, Pennsylvania, James moved to Kentucky in 2015 to be closer to his mother and sister. He worked at Walmart in Carrollton from 2016 until 2022, when he suffered his first stroke. In 2024, after his second stroke, he was diagnosed with a rare vascular disease. Walmart became his second family, and he cherished the friendships he made there. James was known for his contagious smile and willingness to help anyone in need.
A celebration of James’ life will be planned at a later date.
