James William “Bill” Duncan, 62, of Paoli, IN passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis, IN after a battle with lung and bladder cancers, he sure put up one heck of a fight.  
Born November 28, 1961 at Washington County Memorial Hospital in Salem, IN, Bill was the son of the late John David Duncan Sr. and the late Oma Roark Duncan. Bill grew up in Fredericksburg, IN.  He spent most of his life helping others.  He was a mechanic and loved working on cars.  He met and married Rita Rose Rutherford Battoe, she was the love of his life.   Bill and Rita spent many years as caregivers for Bill’s mother, Oma, and for his little brother, Arnold, who has cerebral palsy.  When Bill’s mother died Bill and Rita continued on as Arnold’s caregivers.  And, even when Bill’s cancer struck they continued to care for Arnold.  While Bill was in the hospital following complications with bladder cancer his wife Rita unexpectedly died from cancer on January 27th.  Bill passed away on his wife’s birthday. 

He is survived by his step sons, Darrell L. Battoe, and Gregg L. Battoe (Caitlyn); grandsons Seth P. Battoe and Finn A. Battoe, his brothers Charles D. Duncan (Jan), Arnold E. Duncan, his sisters Gloria M. Fleenor (Orville), Bernice Y. Mims (Jerome), Oma Joanne Roberts, Dawn R. Boswell (Daniel Busick), and many loving nieces and nephews.     Bill was preceded in death by his mother and father, and wife Rita Rose Duncan, and brothers Robert D. Duncan and John D. Duncan Jr. Memorial services to be held at Corydon Baptist Church, 2454 Highway 337 NW, Corydon, IN on March 30, 2024 at 2pm. Memorial Services will be in Honor of Bill and his wife, Rita Rose Duncan.

We and Uncle Bill used to have a blast. I was his right hand. Anything I or Uncle Bill wanted or asked for Kim would do her best to make sure me and Uncle Bill were the happiest men on this planet.. That’s a fact. And we are glad to have known Uncle Bill as long and as well as we did.
