James Gehl

James Robert Gehl, a true movie enthusiast and someone who appreciated his own company, passed away on January 20th, 2024, at the age of 76. Living a mostly solitary life, he had a deep love for Westerns, books, and spending time fixing up his trucks.

Known for his strong opinions and unyielding will, Jim wasn't easily swayed. However, beneath that rugged exterior, there was a surprising softness. Despite his claim of indifference to cats, the affection he shared with a stray companion in his final days revealed a hidden tenderness.

Jim spent over 40 years working with Fiesta Rides, making the road his extended family. He cherished the freedom that came with travel and the unattached ability to move without being tied down by roots. A man of few words, Jim leaves behind a quiet legacy that will endure through his daughter and grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary (Cary) Fields; grandchildren, Mara, Sadie, Camille, and Sawyer; siblings, Joe Gehl of Orleans, IN, Janet Owens of Orleans, IN, Mary Vasileff of Indianapolis, IN, and Carolyn Slover of Indianapolis, IN.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Estellee Gehl; brothers, Marvin, Herman, Herb, and Eddie; and sisters Norma and Carol, in eternal rest.

Jim served his country in the US Army from December 1972 - December 1975 and we remain grateful for his service.
