Jimmy “Smiling Jimmy” Cummings, a lifelong drummer and beloved father, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, in Henderson, Kentucky. At 53 years old, Jimmy leaves behind a family and community deeply shaped by his rhythm, warmth, and joyful spirit.

He earned his famous nickname because he never played a set without a massive grin on his face, radiating pure happiness from behind the drum kit. For over 30 years, Jimmy anchored local jazz and rock bands with his steady tempo and infectious energy, sharing his profound passion for music with everyone who listened. Fellow musicians and friends will long remember him not just for his undeniable talent, but for his encouraging words and the bright spirit he brought to every stage and rehearsal.

Off the stage, Jimmy poured that same love into his friends and family. As a loving father, he always supported his children's dreams, teaching them the values of love and kindness, and how to find the music in everyday life.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Aidan Cummings and Autumn Skye Goodman; his grandson, Arlo Boggs; his brother, John Paul Cummings, and sister-in-law, Patricia Cummings; a vast community of local musicians who were proud to call him a friend; and his cherished dog, Piper, who brought him endless joy.

A musical memorial and celebration of life will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Six Strings in Evansville. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to help cover cremation, mausoleum placement, and funeral expenses.
