Joanne Raydon (Granny)

02/22/1937 - 04/24/2026

Joanne Raydon (Granny), 89, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 22, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts, where she spent much of her youth surrounded by extended family. She attended Katonah High School in Katonah, New York, and enjoyed playing trumpet as a member of the marching band. Joanne attended Park University in Parkville, Missouri, and following graduation, devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family for more than 25 years.

Joanne raised five daughters and was a constant source of support in their academic, athletic, and extracurricular pursuits. She was an active volunteer in Jefferson County Public Schools at both the local and district PTA levels, served as a reading tutor at Zachary Taylor Elementary, was a member of the Girl Scout Core Counsel and a Girl Scout troop leader, volunteered at Camp Shantituck, and supported the Westport and Waggener High School Booster Clubs. She attended Southeast Christian Church, where she participated in the Next Chapter group, making many special friends there.

Once her children were older, Joanne returned to school to pursue a nursing degree. She graduated from Spencerian College in 1991. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, she found great pride and fulfillment in her work and was known for her compassionate care of patients and leadership as a charge nurse.

Joanne’s greatest joy was time spent with her family. Her home was always a gathering place, with an open door to friends and loved ones. Many cherished memories were made there, especially during summer days filled with swimming and cookouts.

She is survived by her daughters: Liz McGrath (Mike), Debbie Meyer (Jeff), Susie Psimer (Jerry), and Kellie Raydon (Marco Ferrero). She also leaves her beloved grandchildren to cherish her memory: Kristy Raydon (Greg Lutz); M.C. Reid; Drew McGrath (Nicole); Max McGrath; Hannah Hillerich (Ryan); Neilson Ebersold (Ella); Anabeth and Josie Psimer; as well as great-grandchildren Seth Coomes (Katie) and Eli McGrath. She was anticipating the arrival of a great-great-grandchild in November. She is also survived by special friends Mary Ellen Lamb and Kathy Lawrence.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Ebersold, and her sister, Megan Jax.

Joanne will be remembered for living a full and active life, surrounded by family and friends, and for her willingness to help others.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer in Louisville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity in her memory. Honoring Joanne’s wishes, her daughters will scatter her ashes in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where she spent many childhood summers.

I’ve only met her once and she was the most spirited person! I bought her house and that day she asked me. “Now where is that bottle of bourbon they told me about!” I was in love with her charisma! Even though I didnt know her well, her memories are here and I will share this home to any that want to reminisce her presence. My condolences go out to the family.

Granny was THE best!! She was so kind, so patient and willing to put up with our shenanigans. She loved a get together and game night. She was blessed with five wonderful daughters and they were blessed with her love and support. All of the friends that walked through that front door were blessed to have the same love, support and kindness. Rest easy, Granny! We love you and will miss you! 🩷

I loved Granny! She definitely had the gift of gab…always chatting and sharing her favorite stories! She had a lot of blessings in her and also hardships, which we all do….and she met each one with determination and resiliency which was rooted in her faith. I know she was so pleased to be surrounded by her daughters and now she is home with her eternal Father along with Cindy, her beloved daughter! She lived a long and wonderful life experiencing more than most and I know she was grateful and thankful for all of the love that was given and shown to her. May each of you find peace in the coming days that your sweet mom is whole and at her final resting place. I will be lifting each of you up in prayer . Love to all and may God hold you in the palm of His hands.
