John Barnes

John Michael “Mike” Barnes, 75, of Crothersville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Hoosier Health and Living in Brownstown, Indiana.

Born on August 9, 1950, in Seymour, Indiana, Mike was the son of John Richard and Margaret Irene (Estes) Barnes, both of whom preceded him in death. 

During the 1970s, Mike proudly served in the Indiana National Guard. He later worked for several years as an aviation mechanic with Rhodes Aviation in Columbus, Indiana. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a cherished member of his family. 

Mike is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Bill) Lewis of Woodland, Alabama; his grandsons, Jefferson Chase Phillips and Joshua Collin Phillips; and his brother, Jeffrey Barnes of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sonia Lynn Barnes; and his brothers, David W. Barnes, Jerry A. Barnes, and Garry B. Barnes. 

Mike was cremated at Magnolia Cremations in Jeffersonville, Indiana. A memorial service will be held this spring.
