John was my uncle but we would joke that we were more like cousins. We were close in age and we sharred the same birthday month. Growing up the family would celebrate our birthdays together since they were eigh days apart. John was the first in our family to become a military officer and later in life we enjoyed talking about the military and the VA. He will be greatly missed.
