John Richard Burge
02/09/1944 - 08/14/2026
John Richard Burge, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, proud Army veteran, and man of kindness and strength, passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Emily Burge; his beloved daughters, Lora Burge-Darby
and her husband, Paul Darby, and Lisa Burge-Freeman and her husband, Tom Freeman;
and his four wonderful grandchildren, Shelbie and her husband Jeremiah, Sam, Taylor, and Jamie. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Julie Burge-Ade, whose husband is John Ade.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring in 2004 after a
distinguished military career. During his years of service, he received numerous honors and
commendations, including the Bronze Star Medal, three National Defense Service Medals,
the Joint Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. His dedication to his country
reflected the same strength, loyalty, and commitment he brought to his family throughout his life.
Outside of his military service, John found happiness in the simple things he loved most. He was an avid reader and passed his love of books and reading on to his daughters, creating a gift that will continue through generations. He enjoyed football, movies, fishing, and camping, but one of his greatest joys was spending time at the beach.
More than anything, John loved his family. He was a kind and loving father, a devoted husband, and a proud grandfather. His family will remember his strength, his love, the lessons he taught them, and the many memories they shared together.
John lived a life of service—to his country and to the people he loved. His presence will be
deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through his family, the values he instilled in them, and the countless memories they will carry in their hearts.
He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
