Joyce Ferrie

On behalf of our extended family and loved ones, Rick and Tracy Ferrie are saddened to announce the death of our amazing mother, Joyce Ferrie, at age 82. She passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026, in Lexington, Kentucky, after succumbing to a number of illnesses. She was surrounded by family at the end, who wished her a tearful goodbye. Aside from Rick and Tracy and our late sister Vicky, she is survived by her brother, Tom McBroom, and a whole crew of nieces and grandchildren.
We appreciate all your love, support, and patience as we mourn and regroup from our loss. Out of respect for her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes scattered at a later date. There will be more information, and certainly much more about her incredible life, once we’re able. But we know there are many who will want to start expressing all that Joyce meant to them, and we wanted to get the news out so the celebration of an absolutely extraordinary person could begin.
Thanks to all of you for your friendship over the many years—especially all you roller skaters from the Holiday Roller Rink in Elkhart!

OMG. I have been trying to reach Joyce. I had no idea. Im so sad. I was looking for a place for her to move back down so we could be neighbors again. Im so very sad and sorry.

Meeting your mother and your family at the skating rink in Martinsburg, WV was one of the best experiences I have from that time period. So many great memories from those years. She/you made me feel like family and I will miss the chats we shared on Facebook talking about music, books, and memories. She had a ready smile and quick wit with a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed. Thinking of you during this time period.

Holiday Roller rink was a huge part of a lot of our lives growing up. Im sitting across from my wife who I met at around 7 or 8 years old skating at Holiday. Joyce ran a buisness that I think the community took for granted, and ran it very well. As kids we came from all walks of life, met at the rink, and learned to get along together. We had a place to go and be active. I will forever be greatful to Joyce and her family for the many years, friends, and memories in that rink!
