Joyce McKnight

Joyce McKnight, 79, of Salem, Indiana, passed away on July 19, 2026.

She is survived by her daughter, Bobbi Barriger (Mike); grandsons, Justin Barriger (Kaylee) and Joshua Barriger; sister, Janice Furr; and brother, Dennis "Butch" Witt. 

Joyce is preceded in death by her spouse, Robert McKnight; mother, Anne Louise Luellman; step-father, Henry Martin Luellman; and sister, Joanne Board (Kenneth). 

Joyce was born and raised in Hobart, IN. She married Robert Mcknight in September of 1966. Joyce and Bob moved to Chesterton, IN to settle down and raise a family. Joyce received her cosmetology license in 1977. She worked as a beautician in Michigan City, IN and Chesterton, IN until 1993 when Joyce and Bob went to Mississippi to care for her in-laws. They returned back to the Chesterton, IN area in 2003, where they lived for 25 years enjoying their retirement. Within the last year they moved to Salem, IN to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Joyce lived in the northwest Indiana area for over 65 years, and Salem for 1 year. 

Joyce was an avid crafter. She primarily worked on quilts, cross stich and custom hand made cards. She could sew absolutely anything. She was in bowling leagues in Chesterton for years. She enjoyed her card making classes, Pinochle Club, and Tops group. She loved decorating her home for every holiday and  hosting at her home. She loved spending time with her friends and family.  She especially liked being called GiGi by her fostered great grandson.  Joyce had a heart of gold and was kind to everyone she met. She led her life with dignity and grace. She touched the lives of many and will definitely be missed by all.
