In Loving Memory of Katie Eve (Kaitie) Clemons

Katie Eve Clemons died on Sept. 25, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by family. Katie, also known as Kaitie, was born on July 18, 1979, to Samuel Clemons and Jeanie Clemons (Oeswein) and grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where she graduated from Jeffersontown High School.

Katie’s sense of humor, contagious laughter, and ability to brighten even the hardest days were a core part of who she was. Katie will be remembered for her kind heart, generous spirit, and the unconditional love she gave to everyone. She found joy in the little things, loved making people smile, and had a special way of making those around her feel appreciated, often putting the needs of others before her own. Katie spent many years working in management in the restaurant industry, including working at her cousin’s bars and restaurants, and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever she was needed.

Everyone who knew Katie knew her signature greeting: “Friiiieeeend!” She had an unforgettable way of drawing out the word that was uniquely hers. You could almost hear her voice just by reading it.

Katie loved spending time with her fiancé of 20 years, Matthew Markuson. Together, they shared two decades of companionship and countless memories. She especially enjoyed cooking for Matthew and surprising him with special treats. Their shared home was filled with love, laughter and, of course, cats! Katie adored her fur babies and somehow always managed to convince Matthew they had room for “just one more cat.” Her love for her cats was endless, and they were such a special part of the life she and Matthew built together.

Family meant everything to Katie, and she cherished spending time with her sister and cousins, with whom she shared an incredibly special bond. Through the years, that bond only grew stronger, especially after the loss of their parents. They leaned on each other through life’s ups and downs, sharing vacations, holiday meals, and a connection that could never be broken. One of Katie’s greatest joys was being an aunt to her niece, Ceena, and nephew, Broxton. Although miles separated them, Katie always cheered them on in Wisconsin from her home in Louisville and loved watching them grow.

Katie is survived by her fiancé, Matthew Markuson; her sister, Melanie Clemons (Bryan Hernandez); her brothers, Kyle Clemons and Derek Warner (Kelsey); her niece, Ceena, and nephew, Broxton; and her stepmother, Pat Clemons. She is also survived by aunts and uncles Eddie (Joanne) Clemons, Lynn (Becky) Clemons, and Sheri (John) Bronstad; cousins, Tommy (Sally) Clemons, Tammy (John) Clegg, Shannon (Keith) Hosey, Becca (Matt Callahan) Clemons, Justin Bronstad, Stacy (Ben) Schweighardt, Josh (Codi) Clemons, Ben (Levine) Clemons, Chris (Juanita) Clemons, Patrick (Paulette) Cameron; and many of her cousins’ children.

She is also survived by Matthew’s family, Gilbert and Paula Markuson and Katherine Markuson (Kyle Holtzclaw); as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins on her Oeswein family side who held a special place in her heart.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Clemons and Jeanie Clemons (Oeswein); her uncle, Thomas Clemons; her aunts, Kathy Clemons and Linda Clemons; her paternal grandparents, Florence and Herman Clemons; and her maternal grandparents, Evelyn and George Oeswein.

Katie’s life was cut far too short, but the love she gave so freely will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a reminder to love deeply, give generously, and always find a reason to make someone smile. Katie will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. A Celebration of Life will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 28th, 2026, to honor and remember Katie. More details will be shared as they become available.
