Larry Armon Fraley

04/08/1940 - 09/26/2025

Larry Armon Fraley of Wurtland, KY passed away peacefully on September 26th 2025 at Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation in Wurtland, KY.  An avid lover of fishing and hunting from his youth and throughout his life, Larry was born at home on April 8th 1940 in Greenup County, and was the son of the late Armon G and Naomi W Fraley.  During his time on this blessed Earth, Larry was a graduate of Wurtland Highschool, class of ‘59, and went on to learn the trade of carpentry through an apprenticeship at the Ashland Vocational School, class of ‘65.

Larry’s love of wood working followed him throughout his life, and he was well known to craft beautiful knives, hand-carved fishing lures, and intricate, miniature log cabins.  In addition to his skills and work as a carpenter, including working for the Carpenter's Union 473 in Ashland, KY, Larry was also a Journeyman Pipefitter and Pipefitter Foreman for CSX.  He was an incredibly handy and capable man, with a quick wit, wry smile, and unique sense of humor.  In addition to his vocational skills, Larry was also a prolific writer who loved history and the great outdoors, publishing several works of fiction during his life.

Our dear Larry is survived by his loving wife Rita Brown Fraley.  Additionally, he is survived by his five children, Lisa Fraley Folger (David) of Worthington KY, Dr. L. Michael Fraley of Penobscot, ME, Kathy Fraley Cox, Patrick Fraley, and Dr. Erik Fraley (Annie) all of Ashland, KY.  Furthermore, Larry is survived by his stepchildren, Chief Warrant Officer Steven Adams (Christine) of San Antonio TX, and Jessica (Rob) Bakowski of Pittsburgh, PA.  Larry had many grandchildren, whom he loved, and is survived by Michelle, Laurel (Rosie), Jessica (Daniel), Sarah (Brooke), Abby, Liam, and 4 great grandsons.  He is also survived by his siblings Sharon Johnson, O’Donna Stafford, Lanny Fraley (Brenda), and Danny Fraley (Barb).  As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister Connie Young, brother Timothy Fraley, brothers-in-law Larry J Johnson, Bob Young, and Ted Stafford.  Two daughters-in-law Casey J Fraley, Lisa Young-Fraley, and a grandson, Armon J Fraley.

It is with heavy but hopeful hearts that we say farewell to Larry, and we wish him the utmost peace in his great and final rest.  Larry’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff and nurses at Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation who treated him with dignity, care and respect.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at the Hoods Creek Enterprise Baptist Church on October 11, at noon, followed by a gathering of friends and family at the Church Fellowship Hall.  The church will open at 11:00 am prior to the service for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation in Larry’s honor to the Jesse Stuart Foundation, for he so loved and was inspired by Stuart’s works as a great American author from his beloved home state of Kentucky.
