Linda Lee Spurgeon Cothran

November 19, 1943 - July 23, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and loving memories that we announce the passing of Linda Lee Spurgeon Cothran, who left this world on July 23, 2026, at the age of 82. Linda passed peacefully at the home of her son, Scott Cordle, and his wife, Miranda, surrounded by the love and comfort of her cherished family.

Born on November 19, 1943, in Rome, Georgia, Linda was the beloved daughter of Winfield Otis and Addie Mae Lanham Spurgeon. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Wiley Cothran, Jr.; her treasured daughter, Stacey Cordle; her parents, Winfield Otis and Addie Mae Spurgeon; her sister, Julia “Judy” Ann Spurgeon; and her cherished dog, Skippy.

Linda's journey began in Rome, Georgia. She graduated from Armuchee High School in 1961. With determination and a strong work ethic, she dedicated 30 years of her life to BellSouth, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. She continued working full-time until recent years.

In June of 1976, Linda married the love of her life, James Wiley Cothran, Jr. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. A devoted mother, Linda is survived by her children, Scott Cordle (Miranda), Tracey Cordle (Lisa), and Jamie Cothran (Candice). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Bronson Cordle (Kristin), Logan Cordle, Megan Cordle Lowry (Jonah), Weston Cordle, Halli Cordle, Michael Bentley (Paige), William Bentley, and Trenton Cothran; and her great-grandchildren, Luke, Landon, and Lily Cordle, and Sadie Bentley.

Linda was a cherished sister to her surviving siblings, Bill (Judy) Spurgeon and Mary (Charles) Broom. Her family and friends will forever remember her for her contagious smile, which brightened every room and brought warmth to all who knew her.

For over 50 years, Linda was an active and devoted member of New Antioch Baptist Church, teaching kindergarten Sunday School and singing in the alto section of the church choir. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and her dedication to her church community was unwavering. She was also a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, where she formed lasting friendships and found joy in shared activities.

In her leisure time, Linda found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time with her family and caring for her pets. Her late beloved dog, Skippy, held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the companionship and joy he brought into her life.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Linda's life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Antioch Baptist Church in Shannon, Georgia. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join in this celebration of a life well-lived.

Although her family mourns the loss of her presence, they find comfort in the countless memories her legacy leaves behind. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
