Martha Oakes

Martha Oakes, 87, of Milltown, Indiana, passed away on August 14, 2025. She was born on July 15, 1938, in Bradford, Indiana, to William Gettelfinger and Zita Bir.

Martha is survived by her daughter, Cindy A. Spencer; grandchildren, Amanda Crecelius, Robert Crecelius, Jason (Lindsey) Embry, and Beth Duke; her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bouteiller, Xavier Crecelius, Chole Duke, Bella Duke, Trenton Adamson, Dustin Surgenor, Brittany Embry, Hannah Jenkins, Stevie Embry, Ian Crecelius, Elijah Crecelius, and Jaeden Crecelius; brother, Cletus Gettelfinger; and sisters, Margaret Baylor and Mary Andre Gettelfinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Oakes; her brothers, George and B.J. Gettelfinger; and her sisters, Rita Weiser, Marie Garrison, Loretta Robertson, Ruth Ollis, and Sister Mary Katherine Gettelfinger.

Martha enjoyed gardening, farming, spending time with her family, and the occasional gamble. She will be remembered with love and deeply missed by all who knew her. She is retired from Kling Co., in Louisville, Kentucky, and Royal Lace in Louisville, Kentucky.
