Mary Pifer Mountz

Mary Pifer Mountz, 79, of Greencastle, passed away on June 15th, 2026. 

Mary was born on Father’s Day, June 15th, 1947, to Reverend and Mrs. William L Pifer. 

She is survived by her brother, Dr. George W Pifer; her children, Edward Mountz (Juanita), Mary Elizabeth Wheeler (Nick), and Howard Mountz (Jessica); and her grandchildren, Lloa, Lydia, Emmett, and Bailey. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ruth Ann Wiegman. 

Mary was an avid baker who found great joy in sharing food and fellowship with others. She devoted countless hours to serving her community, including preparing meals for the local homeless shelter. She was also the founder of the non-food pantry, a member of the DeKalb County Women’s Club and a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. 

A memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 18th, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Greencastle. Immediately following the service, her ashes will be interred in the church’s memorial garden. 

Family and friends are invited to remain at the church following the interment for a time of fellowship and refreshments. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
