Michael Richard Harris 55, a devoted father and friend, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Utica, NY, on April 8, 1969. Michael lived a life filled with love, compassion, and kindness. In 1994, he made Big Clifty, KY his adopted home, where he fell deeply in love with the peace and people of this beautiful area.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Olivia; parents, Richard & Monica Harris of Richfield Springs, NY; brother, Scott of Richfield Springs, NY; sister Patricia (Bob) Smicinski, The Villages, FL; nephew Matthew (Amber) Smicinski of Watchung, NJ; and niece Julie (James) Smicinski of Columbia, MD.
Mike's heart was full of generosity and selflessness. He took in many strays - both animal and human alike - into his loving home, inspiring countless individuals to follow in his footsteps. His kindness and compassion knew no bounds, earning him a reputation as a close friend to many. Those who knew him remembered his warm smile, infectious laugh, his coy humor and listening ear, which made everyone feel seen, heard, and loved.
A passionate gardener and automobile mechanic by profession, Mike found joy in the simple things. He was also an animal lover, leaving behind his beloved rescue dog, Kiwi. His love for gardening and pets brought him immense happiness, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Predeceased by his grandfather, W. Scott Harris, and grandmothers, Dorothy V. Harris and Eva Haffner, Mike is survived by a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will continue to inspire others for years to come.
Donations may be made in his memory to his pride and joy Olivia so she can keep his mini farm alive and thriving.

I am sorry for your loss. I had no idea he was ill. He was always so funny and always had a smile on his face. I always enjoyed visiting him at Harold’s and Weavers. He was always into something. RIP brother.

I’m sure Mike’s dad inspired my love of heavy metal, as his way of showing disapproval for whatever Hell we were raising in his barn was met with “What are you two doing now!?! JUDAS PRIEST!” We would laugh and continue on as he walked away shocked and disappointed. It couldn’t have been the accidental fires, or rolled over lawn tractors, or even us raiding the garden or pantry, eating everything that wasn’t nailed down. Fun times. RIP Mike!
