Michael Rudolph Girard

It is with great sadness that we announce Michael Rudolph Girard, 82, passed away peacefully in Louisville, KY on September 3, 2025.
He was born in August 1943 to RJ and Betty Sue Girard and grew up in West, Texas, surrounded by loving family where he made lifelong friendships. Michael graduated from West High School in 1961 and then went on to Murray State University, graduating in 1965. He later served in the Army before settling in Louisville, Kentucky, where he raised his family and eventually opened Girard Hardware.
Michael loved serving the community of Beechmont for 44 years — even making sure the store was open in every snowstorm. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine.
He is survived by his sister, Suzanne; his daughters, Gigi and Tina (James); and his grandchildren, Gabrielle, Rhys, Oscar, and Collins.
The family will celebrate his life with a private service. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be sent to the Rutherford Elementary School Family Resource Center in the Beechmont Community.
