Paul David “Dave” Cheever

December 14, 1941 – June 8, 2025

Paul David “Dave” Cheever, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the home of his daughter Kim and son-in-law Dan Jent in New Castle, Indiana. He was born on December 14, 1941, in Anderson, Indiana, to Londa (Londi) and Bernadine (Bailey) Cheever. Dave was one of twelve children in a close-knit family.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: William “Bill” (Onda Jo) Cheever, Richard “Dick” (Joan) Cheever, Lonadine (Kenny) White, Patsy “Pat” (Loran) Penrod, James “Jim” Cheever, Harold (Janet) Cheever, Stephen “Steve” Cheever, Nancy (Cheever) Currey; his beloved son, Mark Gabriel Cheever; and his longtime companion of over twenty years, Susan “Susie” Lawley.

He is survived by his children: Kimmerly (Dan) Jent of New Castle, Indiana; Angie (Scott) Turner of Virginia; Stephanie (Jim) Presnell of Minnesota; Chris (Christie) Cheever of Alabama; and Steven Cheever of Virginia. He is also survived by step-children Tommy (Carrie) England of Indiana and Jennifer (Richie) Hamill of Florida, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who loved him dearly.

Dave spent many years as a semi-truck driver for a logging company in Virginia and later drove a dump truck in Florida before retiring in his 70s. He had a deep love for sports—especially football, basketball, and racing. In his younger years, he was an avid fisherman, but as he got older, he found more joy in simply watching wildlife and being surrounded by nature.

A man of faith, Dave was a believer in Christ and often spoke of his longing to be reunited with Jesus, his parents, and the loved ones who had gone before him. His family finds comfort in knowing that his journey is now complete.

A celebration of life will be held later this summer to honor his memory.
