Paul W. (West) Monroe
Paul W. (West) Monroe, a proud veteran, dedicated community member, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully after a life marked by service, hard work, and devotion to others.
Paul was born on March 1, 1932, in Louisville, Kentucky. Following the historic Ohio River flood of 1937, he relocated to Lockland, Ohio, where he was lovingly adopted by George and Elizabeth Monroe and welcomed into their family alongside their daughters, Margaret and Edith.
He graduated from Lockland High School with the Class of 1950 and soon answered the call to serve his country. In March 1951, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy. After training at Great Lakes Naval Base, he served aboard the USS Wren (DD-568) stationed out of Norfolk, Virginia. He faithfully served until receiving an honorable discharge in March 1955.
Following his military service, Paul attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He began his professional career with Armour and Company in St. Bernard, Ohio, and in 1962 was transferred to the company's Jeffersonville, Indiana branch. In 1967, he joined Henry Vogt Machine Company, where he worked diligently for more than 26 years before retiring on July 7, 1993.
Beyond his career, Paul was deeply committed to his community. He was an active member of the Jeffersonville Optimist Club, American Legion Post #35, and First Presbyterian Church. He also dedicated many years to mentoring young people as Scoutmaster of Troop 13, serving from 1965 until 1980. Through his leadership, guidance, and example, he left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Paul will be remembered for his patriotism, integrity, strong work ethic, and generous spirit. He was grateful for the friendships and relationships that enriched his life and cherished the people who supported and cared for him throughout the years.
He is lovingly remembered by Keith Rager Sr., Debbie Rager, their family, and the many friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, wisdom, and friendship.
Paul's legacy of service, dedication, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
