Peter Joseph Lucchesi

Peter Joseph Lucchesi, known in Italy as Pietro Giuseppe Lucchesi, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026. He was born on September 16, 1944, in Gromignana, Italy.

Peter met the love of his life, Angela Casani, in 1971 during a trip Angela took to Italy with her father. The couple married in 1972 in Louisville, Kentucky, and remained devoted to one another for more than 50 years, until Peter’s passing. Peter and Angela spent several years living in North Carolina, where Peter worked for Motorola, before returning to Louisville to settle down and build their life and family together.

In Louisville, Peter worked for Bailey’s TV and the RETS Institute of Technology before beginning a long and meaningful career as an educator, specializing in computers and electrical engineering. He trained Ford workers to operate robotic equipment and later earned an honorary doctorate from the University of Louisville’s Speed School. Peter taught at the Speed School, Westport Vocational School, and Southern High School, where he helped shape generations of students and played an important role in developing Southern’s magnet program. He retired from teaching in 2005.

Peter was preceded in death by his son, Richard Renato Lucchesi (1978–2018).

He is survived by his beloved wife, Angela Isabella Lucchesi; his daughter, Carol Elizabeth Darnell, and her husband, Stephen Darnell; his daughter, Victoria Isabella Lucchesi; his son, Michael Joseph Lucchesi, and his wife, Lindsey Lucchesi; and his grandchildren, Rhiannon Jane, Ian Thomas, and Carson Alexander.

Outside of his professional life, Peter enjoyed woodworking, painting, photography, and film. His love of music began in Italy, where he played keyboards and accordion with the band The Renegades, and music remained an important part of his life. He cherished quiet evenings with Angela, listening to old vinyl records together. He also had a fondness for classic Western films and enjoyed a good glass of Kentucky bourbon.

Peter’s life was one of hard work, dedication, creativity, and devotion to his family. From the hills of Tuscany to the home he built in Louisville, he created a life filled with meaningful work, lasting memories, and quiet joys. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
