Ruby Carol (Shannon) Stout
7/31/1942-12/10/2025
Ruby Carol (Shannon) Stout, age 83, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025, in New Albany, Indiana.
Ruby was born on July 31, 1942, in California, Ohio, to Alva Myrl Shannon and Edna Ruth (Carter) Shannon. She grew up with a strong sense of family and carried that devotion with her throughout her life.
A proud homemaker, Ruby devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family. When her children were young, she was a room mother at their grade school, involved, and ready to help wherever she was needed. Caring for people was not just something Ruby did—it was who she was. She had a spicy disposition, a quick wit, and a fierce, unwavering love for those she held dear. Nothing brought her greater joy than her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Ruby found happiness in the simple pleasures: baking for those she loved, taking long drives with her beloved husband, Ira, watching movies, and enjoying music. Later in life, she unexpectedly discovered Korean soap operas and became a devoted fan, delighting in sharing her enthusiasm for them with anyone who would listen. These joys, small and large, filled her days and reflected her curious, spirited nature.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva Myrl Shannon and Edna Ruth (Carter) Shannon, and by her husband of 58 years, Ira Stout, Jr., with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership.
Ruby is survived by her brother, Alan (Tena) Shannon; her sisters, Marlene Dean and Sharon Cook; her daughter, Tammy Stout; her sons, Timothy (Emily Schreidl) Stout and Theodore (Dana) Stout; and her cherished grandchildren, Shelby (Mike) James, Dalen Lieffring, Breanna Stout, Bryce Stout, Claudia Schreidl, and Shannon Stout. She leaves behind a family forever shaped by her love, strength, and devotion.
A celebration of Ruby’s life will be announced in the spring of 2026. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Ira, reuniting them after a life shared together.
Ruby will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for her fierce heart, her caring spirit, and the deep, lasting love she gave so freely to her family.
