Ruth Ann Witt Stewart, 78, of Salem, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Baptist Health Hospital in New Albany, Indiana, following a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. Ruth was truly a warrior, facing her illness with strength and determination.

She was born on April 26, 1948, in Salem, Indiana, to the late Spencer Witt and Ada Myrtle Lee Witt. She attended Franklin Elementary School in New Salem, Indiana, and Salem High School.

Ruth was the kind of mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend everyone hopes to have. Her family always came first, and she was often the first person to call or offer a helping hand whenever someone was in need. Following the passing of her parents, Ruth devoted many years to caring for her sister Bernice, doing so with extraordinary compassion and Christ-like love.

Ruth will be remembered for her love of cooking, her natural gift for nursing others back to health, and her willingness to listen at any hour of the day or night. Her kindness, warmth, and comforting presence touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed.

She also had a special love for her two beloved Yorkshire terriers, Allie and Rosie, who had been her constant companions for nearly ten years. They were truly her fur babies, and she treasured every moment with them.

Ruth enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially loved visiting the Salem Senior Center. She particularly enjoyed evenings when her cousin Gary played with the band, with his sister Yvonne often there as well. Those gatherings brought back fond memories of their childhood and created special moments she cherished.

Ruth is survived by her loving children, Mark (Julia) and Karen, and was preceded in death by her son, Kevin, in 2024. Her grandchildren, Derrek (Ro), Tiffany, Kristin (Dylan), Lydia, and George, along with her great-grandchildren, Jacob and Laney, were a tremendous source of pride and joy in her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Bernice, Brenda, Jeannie, and Alfreda.

In addition to her son Kevin, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Spencer and Ada Myrtle Witt, and her siblings, Joy, Claude, Euna, Carson, Roy, Janie, Denver, Judy, and Lee.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has shown kindness, love, and support throughout this difficult time. Special thanks go to all of Ruth's doctors and nurses, whose compassion and dedication over the years, especially during her final week, meant more than words can express. The family will always be grateful for the exceptional care they provided.

Ruth's legacy of unconditional love, selflessness, faith, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
