Sandra K. Walker

June 16, 1950-February 3, 2025

1 Corinthians:13-12; “For now we see through a mirror dimly and then, face to face.”
This scripture was fulfilled as Sandra K. Walker, 74, of Richmond, KY, while surrounded by her loving family, left for her eternal home on February 3, 2025.

Kay was born in Chelyan, West Virginia to Edward and Eileen Toler. After graduating from DuPont High School, she worked for Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. in WV, and later at Michigan Bell. After her boys were older, she worked at Arbor North, a senior retirement facility in Spring Arbor, Michigan where she cooked and then served as an activity director. After moving to Richmond, Kentucky, she worked as a teacher’s aide for Madison County Schools before retiring.

Kay was a voracious reader who read several books a week. Despite having a quiet nature, her ability to listen and her fun sense of humor won her many friends. Although she loved karaoke and usually went once a week, she mostly used her singing talent for the Lord. She began as a teenager singing with her siblings as The Toler Sisters, and later sang solos at her local church services, funerals and weddings. At the time of her passing, she was attending Church On the Rock in Berea, KY. Most important to her, however, was her family and her relationship with Christ. Her love for her two children and ten grandchildren was boundless, and like the godly woman who is described in

Proverbs 31, her wisdom and love benefitted and heavily influenced her family. And what a legacy she has left! One grandchild described her grandmother as a pure soul whose loving nature she hoped to emulate and pass on to her future children. Another described her as brave, kind, loyal and strong, and she added that “My mamaw made me into the Christian I am today.” After a difficult year, Kay, you came through the fire and were made gold by the author and perfecter of your faith. We believe when you arrived at Heaven’s gate, the Lord said” Well done, good and faithful servant… “Enter into the joy of your master.” We will hold you in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: James, Libby and Joanie Toler. Left to cherish her memory are sons: Rick (Lisa) of Lancaster, Ohio and Tim (Toni) of Concord, Michigan; Special Daughter-In-law Christina Heckathorn of Versailles, Kentucky; Grandchildren: Ryan, Katelyn, Jay, Aden, Madison, Tyson, Olivia, Tanith, Torrance, and Thais; Siblings: Ed Toler of Scott Depot, West Virginia; Jewel Null of Dallas, North Carolina and Bonny Rushbrook of Scott Depot, West Virginia; Aunt: Mildred
Martinez of Phoenix, Arizona; Special Sister at Heart: Pat Goldsmith of Jackson, Michigan; Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, March 2, 2025 at The American Legion, 550 S. Keeneland Drive, Richmond, Kentucky. Please dress casually for this event as we celebrate our mom/mamaw/sister’s legacy.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Baptist Health in Richmond and at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital for all of their incredible hard work and care.

I met Sandy many years ago , probably in the early 90’s. She was one of the sweetest and kindest people I had ever met. We worked for a period together at our local Senior Center. She would often sing gospel songs for our participants. About 2 years ago I had the privilege to see Sandy at our church. I remember she sang one Sunday for us and it brought back memories of those older days. Sending family and friends sympathy for your loss. Sandy will always be remembered and is no doubt with our Lord and Savior.
