Sarah “Sally” Jane Garrard

Sarah “Sally” Jane Garrard, 87, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, KY. She was born on December 25, 1936, in Mineola, NY, to Sue and Edward W. Place.  Soon thereafter, the family moved to Kentucky, where Sally was raised and made many lifelong friends.  

Sally is preceded in death by her parents and son, Jeff Garrard.  She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Mike) Carter, of Louisville, KY, previously of Hanson, KY, daughter in-law, Grace Garrard, of La Selva Beach, CA, grandchildren, Jennifer (Dennis) Roberts, Andrew Carter, Cliff (Miranda) Carter, all of Louisville, KY, Emma Garrard, of La Selva Beach, CA, great grandson, Will Roberts, sister, Patricia Baber and niece, of Brookline, MA, nephew of Newburgh, IN, half-brother, Chuck Place of Santa Barbara, CA. 

As an adult, Sally loved to travel and lived in Connecticut and Tennessee, before returning to Kentucky and retiring from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet at age 70. 

Some of her fondest memories include hiking with the Tennessee Trails hiking group; bird watching; singing in the Nashville Symphony Chorus and the Madisonville Community Chorus’s production of The Messiah, in which she sang the alto solo for several years; antiquing and exploring in New England; and spending time with her family whom she loved dearly.  She never met a stranger and never missed an opportunity to tell others how proud she was of her family.
