Stephen McCord

Stephen William McCord of Hardinsburg, Indiana, passed peacefully on July 8, 2026, in his home after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Stephen's work career included The Salvation Army, Goodwill, and First Chance Transportation, where he said he felt like family. Stephen loved animals and built a mobile grooming company. He loved retro gaming/gaming, playing his guitar, and traveling.

Stephen found Jesus to carry him this last year, even in death, and wanted that to be his legacy to family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raidy McCord; and mother, Janice (Elmore) McCord, Portland.

He is survived by his second mom, Rita McCord, Hardinsburg, IN; siblings, Brian Payne, Christy Jamison (Toby), and Jason Brewster (Taylor), of Louisville KY; Nichole Brewster; and the loving nephews and niece who cared for him in his final year of life, Julian, Gabriel, and Isabella Brewster, of Hardinsburg IN; and his faithful friend, Jayme Blankenbaker Tenn.

 A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 11 am to 1 pm at The Recovery Complex, 202 Homestead Ave, Jeffersonville, IN 47130. Stephen's resting place will be Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, interred with Janice McCord, along with his father, at a later date.
