William Earl Hall
12/10/1944 - 10/19/2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce that, in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 19, 2025, William Earl Hall, 80, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away with his family by his side. Will was the son of William H. Hall and Ella Mae Newton Hall and the older brother of Susan Carol Hall.
Will was a member of the first graduating class from Saint Xavier High School's new location, class of 1962, where he made lifelong friends. He attended Western Kentucky University, where he met his wife of 60 years, Sunbeam Mason Floyd Hall. He honorably served in the United States Navy and completed two tours while stationed in San Diego, California. Will went on to dedicate 30 years to a major local asset and Fortune 500 company, Philip Morris.
Will was a devout Catholic, attending every Sunday evening Mass at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church. Rain or shine, he was there saying a prayer for his loved ones. Will extended his faith and dedication to his community as a mentor, coaching young men in football and basketball. Coach Hall is most well known for his victories at Mother of Good Counsel in the Toy Bowl and the Conference Championship at Swift Creek Middle School.
At home, Will was famous for his impromptu adventures and knack for turning everyday moments into memories. He loved taking his grandchildren to the park, going thrifting, or treating them to ice cream. Holidays were his favorite time of year, and he went to great lengths to make each celebration special, introducing new family traditions like "Mystery Cookies" and Mark's Feed Store potato salad, which became a staple at every family gathering. In his free time, Will enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: a round of golf, watching sports with his grandsons, betting on horses, fine cigars, and good bourbon.
Will Hall was many things to many people, but nothing brought him more joy than his role as "Papa Will" and the time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sunbeam Mason Floyd Hall, and his sister, Susan Carol Hall. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Richard Brandon Hall. His surviving children are Eric Jerome Hall (Claudia), Annie Laura Hall, and John Michael Hall (Megan). William's surviving grandchildren are Jesse Cameron Lyons Hall, Lea Marie Logan, Allison Hall, Emily Hall, Astrid Harmon, Michael Jayce Dickman, Elizabeth Hall, William Hall, Brandon Hall, Luke Hall, Landin Hall, Eli Hall, and Gabriella Hall.
