William Stapleton

William Stapleton, age 59, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025.

William lived a life full of heart, humor, and hard work. Known to many wrestling fans as “The Reaper” and “Smokey Mountain Massacre,” he brought both passion and showmanship to the ring throughout his career. Beyond wrestling, William worked as a piano mover and later in event security—roles that reflected his strength, dedication, and steady presence.

A proud graduate of DuPont Manual High School, William was a lifelong learner who loved history, mystery, and western stories. He could often be found reading, watching true-crime or historical programs, or creating art—hand-pouring candles and painting ceramics that he shared with those he loved.

William was preceded in death by his parents, E.C. and Blanche Stapleton; sisters, Kaye Stephens and Jackie Earls; and his fiancée, Vicki Dobson.

He is survived by his stepdaughter, Cristin Ott (JB); sister, Tami Pierson; nephews, JR Pierson (Nikki) and Michael Blake; great-nephew, Brayden Pierson; great-niece, Kylee Pierson; grandson, Jax Ott; and many cousins and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

A memorial service to celebrate William’s life will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Keys Ferry Baptist Church, 9808 Keys Ferry Road, Fairdale, KY 40118.

Those who knew William will remember his humor, creativity, and generous spirit. He will be deeply missed, but his light and legacy will continue in the lives he touched.
