Barbara D. Fraley
December 11, 1957 – March 24, 2026
Barbara “Barb” D. Fraley passed away on March 24, 2026, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. Throughout her journey, Barb showed remarkable strength, grace, and resilience—never complaining and never giving up.
Barb was a trailblazer from an early age. She made history as the first female athlete from Hobart High School to receive an athletic scholarship. A gifted and passionate competitor, she excelled as an all-star shortstop and proudly participated in basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track. Her talent, determination, and love for sports left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Above all, Barb will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering spirit, and the deep love she shared with those around her. She is survived by her beloved wife, Pam Passera; her cherished cat, Mollie; three siblings; and hundreds of friends whose lives she touched in meaningful ways.
In honoring Barb’s wishes, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Hobart Humane Society.
Barb’s legacy of strength, compassion, and perseverance will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

I had not seen Barbara in decades. When we were children I would see her everyday. Our backyards were across from one another. Barbara was a talented person. She could learn and do anything and made it all look easy. We played neighborhood sports, fish down at the lake, played board games and the Fraley family always were so generous to share their backyard pool with the neighbors. Barbara possessed a sweet kindness to all… which was a characteristic I feel she acquired from her mother, a true angel who also loved everyone. Barbara was a huge part of our childhood… as was her family, true devoted friends. I am a better person today from being friends and knowing Barb, her sisters and her parents.

Barb was a genuinely good soul and a true friend; the kind of person who listened with her whole heart and stood by you through thick and thin. Her impeccable work ethic, quick wit and fierce spirit are irreplaceable. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter and strength. Barb is deeply missed, but her bright spirit will never be forgotten.

I worked with Barb for many years, at Royal Envelope. Many a time I would talk to her about work and softball. She would always ask me about what was going on in my life. She loved it when I would send her pictures of my grandkids. Barb was a wonderful person.
